Agartala, May 30 (NationPress) The Tripura Police apprehended a 25-year-old woman on Friday, seizing a pistol and narcotics valued at approximately Rs 20 lakh, as reported by officials.
According to Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai from North Tripura District, a police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Jeremiah Darlong executed a raid at the residence of one Helal Miah in the Bhagyapur locality under Dharmanagar police station, leading to the arrest of Mamoni Begum.
Authorities recovered a pistol, several live cartridges, and 7,800 highly addictive methamphetamine tablets, also referred to as Yaba tablets, from her possession, all valued at around Rs 20 lakh.
The district police chief confirmed that a case has been lodged under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with a thorough investigation currently in progress.
Officials are investigating the possibility of a larger drug trafficking operation and are actively working to unveil the full scope of this network.
“Police officials are questioning the woman to ascertain the origin of the arms and their intended use. More information will emerge following the completion of the interrogation and the ongoing investigation,” Rai remarked to IANS.
This incident of arms recovery follows an earlier seizure of eight pistols and 16 empty magazines from an express train at the Agartala railway station on May 8.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted a joint operation on May 8, recovering eight pistols and 16 empty magazines from the Tripura Sundari Express Train upon its arrival in Agartala from Firozpur in Punjab.
“Eight pistols and 16 empty magazines were found in two unclaimed bags. We have yet to trace the owner or carrier,” a GRP official stated, noting that there are no identifiable marks or manufacturing details on the pistols and magazines.
All eight pistols resemble point 9mm pistols.
