Should Trump Cancel $686 Million Military Aid to Pakistan?

Quetta, Dec 12 (NationPress) Prominent Baloch human rights advocate, Mir Yar Baloch, has reached out to US President Donald Trump to express grave concerns regarding the newly sanctioned $686 million military assistance to Pakistan. He cautioned that this funding could facilitate ongoing oppression and violence against Baloch civilians.
The activist emphasized that the Baloch community has suffered for seventy-seven years under Pakistani domination, characterized by enforced disappearances and systematic extermination, largely executed with weaponry marked “Made in USA.”
In his correspondence with President Trump, Mir stated, “With utmost respect for you and the esteemed American populace, we urgently implore you: Immediately revoke and permanently annul the recently authorized military package to Pakistan, including the $686 million F-16 sustainment and upgrade initiative, along with all related security assistance that amounts to hundreds of millions more. These are not defensive resources. These are the very aircraft and munitions that have consistently bombarded Baloch civilian regions, resulting in the deaths of our women and children, and targeting our leaders.”
Mir also pointed out that Pakistan harbored Osama bin Laden for years while still receiving American financial aid. He accused the Pakistani military and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of misappropriating billions of US dollars that were meant to combat terrorism, instead directing those funds against American forces.
“Yet today, the same duplicitous and radical regime is being handed new American weaponry intended primarily for innocent Baloch families,” the human rights advocate remarked.
Mir recalled that thirteen years prior, on February 8, 2012, the US Congress addressed the situation of the Baloch people. The House Committee on Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, led by former Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, held a momentous hearing titled “The Crisis in Balochistan.”
During this session, he noted, American legislators recognized that Pakistan has been committing significant human rights violations against the Baloch people and that US-supplied arms are being utilized to kill Baloch civilians. They also affirmed that the “Baloch nation has the moral and historical right to independence.”
Urging President Trump to act on the moral clarity expressed in 2012, Mir asserted, “We respectfully yet firmly request you to: Immediately suspend and permanently cancel the entire F-16 sustainment and upgrade package for Pakistan. Halt all pending military financing and security assistance until an independent review confirms that none of it will be used against civilian populations in the Republic of Balochistan.”
