Trump Highlights New Venezuela Oil Partnership at Texas Export Hub
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Washington, Feb 28 (NationPress) President Donald Trump highlighted a new oil partnership with Venezuela during an address at a significant Texas export terminal, asserting that the growing refining and exports from Corpus Christi represent what he termed a monumental American energy resurgence.
Speaking at the Port of Corpus Christi, described by him as “one of the largest energy export hubs globally,” Trump emphasized his administration's swift actions on energy policy. “On my first day, I declared a national energy emergency. I lifted the Biden export ban. And I instructed our incredible Texas energy workers to simply drill, baby, drill!”
He boasted about production increases since he took office, stating, “Since my inauguration, US oil production has surged by 600,000 barrels daily.” He also mentioned that “natural gas production is at a record high.”
Trump pointed to the decrease in fuel prices, saying, “Today, here in Corpus Christi, the gasoline price is down to just below $2.30.” He referenced a recent visit, noting, “$1.99. Then, I saw another at $1.85. It’s happening.”
A key element of his speech centered on Venezuela. Indicating a nearby tanker, he revealed, “Currently, 360,000 barrels of Venezuelan crude are on the tanker to my left.” He characterized Caracas as a “new ally and partner,” stating, “For the benefit of both nations, we will refine their oil right here in America, in Texas, and then export it worldwide.”
Trump argued that the deal would be advantageous for both countries, proclaiming, “It’s beneficial for Venezuela, and it’s beneficial for us,” adding that “a large portion comes right here.”
He credited federal investments during his first term for the port’s expansion, stating, “During my first term, I authorized crucial federal funding to deepen the channel and fully modernize the Port of Corpus Christi,” adding that this has led to the creation of “tens of thousands of jobs.”
Jesse Robinson, asset management director at the port, called the occasion “an undeniably historic moment,” highlighting the “millions of dollars in federal funding invested in infrastructure that enables us to serve our customers and, in turn, serve communities globally.”
Kevin Rose, a Marine Corps veteran, spoke about how recent tax reforms have positively impacted his family, stating, “With the new overtime tax exemption, we could purchase a commercial refrigerator for our business,” and mentioned plans for a family trip.
Trump also connected energy supply to the growth of artificial intelligence, asserting that major tech companies need to establish their own “power plants” to reduce their impact on communities, calling this requirement “mandatory.”
Paul Perez, president of the National Border Patrol Council, praised the administration’s overall achievements, telling supporters, “President Trump is the best president in our nation’s history. Challenge me on that.”
