US Officials Endorse Trump’s ‘Operation Epic Fury’ Against Iran
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Washington, March 2 (NationPress) Prominent Republican lawmakers in the United States have united in their support for President Donald Trump’s initiation of “Operation Epic Fury,” characterizing it as a crucial step to curb Iran’s nuclear aspirations and to address what they have labeled as decades of hostility towards the United States.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune remarked that Iran's missile proliferation and backing of militant groups have resulted in an intolerable threat.
“For years, Iran’s unyielding nuclear ambitions, its growing stockpile of ballistic missiles, and its steadfast support for terrorist organizations in the region have posed a clear and unacceptable risk to US servicemembers, citizens in the area, and many of our allies,” Thune stated.
Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso presented the operation as a restoration of deterrence, as the White House released an extensive list of lawmakers and their statements on Sunday.
“I commend President Trump for his decisive action to dismantle the evil terrorist regime in Iran. This is peace through strength,” Barrasso asserted.
Senate Republican Conference Chair Tom Cotton cited a long history of antagonism linked to Tehran.
“A nuclear weapons program. Thousands of missiles. State sponsorship of terror. Iran has been at war with the US for 47 years: from the hostage crisis to the Beirut Marine barracks, Khobar Towers, and roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan that have killed or injured thousands of American troops, including the attempted assassination of President Trump,” Cotton noted.
Senator Roger Wicker emphasized that the administration had laid out its military objectives with clarity.
“The President has clearly articulated the goals of the operation: to permanently thwart the ayatollahs’ quest for a nuclear weapon, to degrade their ballistic missile capabilities and production capacity, and to dismantle their naval and terrorism capabilities,” Wicker explained.
Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed that congressional leaders were briefed prior to the action.
“The Gang of 8 was thoroughly briefed earlier this week that military action might become necessary to safeguard American troops and citizens in Iran,” Johnson mentioned.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise contended that diplomatic channels had been exhausted.
“The President has worked diligently to forge a sustained peace through diplomacy with Iran. Instead, Iran has persisted in pursuing their malevolent ambitions,” Scalise stated.
During Sunday’s talk shows, Senator Lindsey Graham provided forthright praise.
“The mothership of terrorism is sinking. The captain is dead… Well done, President Trump,” Graham remarked.
Throughout the day, lawmakers consistently referenced Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missile advancements, and support for militant factions as rationales for the strike, labeling it as both overdue and strategic.
According to the US Constitution, the president acts as commander-in-chief, though significant military operations typically prompt oversight discussions in Congress. Lawmakers indicated that further briefings are anticipated as the operation progresses.
Iran has been a central focus of US national security policy since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, with tensions arising from sanctions, proxy conflicts, and disputes over uranium enrichment.
For decades, preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon has been a bipartisan goal in Washington, even as administrations have differed on the appropriate mix of diplomacy, sanctions, and military action.
