Chennai, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has officially announced the rescheduling of its highly awaited public gathering in Erode, which was initially set for December 16, now postponed to December 18. The reason for this delay is attributed to what the party labeled as “excessive and newly imposed police restrictions.”
The update was provided by the party's chief coordinator, Sengottaiyan. The event, which will be led by Vijay, is now planned to take place at Pavalatham Palayam, located on the outskirts of Erode.
Previously, the party had submitted a formal request to District Collector Kandasamy and Superintendent of Police Sujatha for permission to hold the rally on December 16. In this application, TVK indicated that they were expecting a turnout of up to 40,000 individuals.
However, following initial media engagements where Sengottaiyan warned of a potential “major political mobilization” throughout Tamil Nadu, district police and revenue officials conducted an inspection of the proposed location. According to the party, this inspection led to the imposition of numerous additional conditions and restrictions that were beyond the regular regulatory framework.
“Due to the excessive police controls and newly introduced regulations, organizing the meeting on the 16th has become unfeasible,” Sengottaiyan conveyed to reporters.
He further mentioned that TVK would apply again for permission to hold the rally on December 18. “New conditions have been introduced that were never part of prior guidelines. To adhere to these and obtain approval, we require a few additional days. We will present a fresh representation to the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police seeking permission for the 18th,” he stated.
Issuing a strong caution, Sengottaiyan asserted that if permission is denied once more, the party will escalate the matter to the courts. “If approval is denied despite our adherence to all legal standards, we will pursue judicial avenues,” he emphasized.
When asked about the nature of the restrictions enforced by the authorities, Sengottaiyan appeared visibly moved. “I wish to discuss it, but I feel as though I am wrestling with my own emotions. Even as I attempt to speak, I struggle to find the right words,” he expressed before abruptly exiting the briefing.
The postponement occurs amidst a surge of political activity in Tamil Nadu, as TVK gears up for a series of public mobilizations under Vijay’s leadership in anticipation of upcoming electoral contests. The Erode rally is poised to serve as a crucial demonstration of strength for this emerging political group.
