Erode, Dec 8 (NationPress) Following the refusal of permission by district police due to concerns over space and security, TVK, the political party led by actor-politician Vijay, has submitted a new application to obtain approval for its planned public rally in Erode on December 16. This move underscores the party's commitment to proceed with this significant campaign event despite the earlier denial.
Vijay, the head of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), is ramping up his political outreach across the state as the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach.
In light of this campaign, a substantial public meeting was scheduled for the Erode district. On Monday, TVK’s State Executive Committee Chief Coordinator Sengottaiyan, accompanied by senior party officials, met with Erode Collector Kandhasamy at the Collectorate camp office in Sampath Nagar to officially file a petition for the December 16 rally.
A concurrent representation was made to the Erode District Superintendent of Police. The rally was initially slated to take place on a seven-acre private vacant land near Pavalathampalayam along the Erode–Perundurai Road. However, after a police inspection led by Superintendent of Police Sujatha, permission was refused.
Authorities cited insufficient space, challenges in crowd management, and potential safety hazards as the primary reasons for the venue's rejection.
In response to the denial, Sengottaiyan promptly consulted with TVK’s district-level leaders to find a new location. Consequently, an alternative site close to Perundurai has been identified, and a fresh request for police approval for this revised venue was submitted later that day.
“Once we receive permission, we will conduct the rally in strict compliance with government regulations and security protocols,” stated Sengottaiyan.
When questioned about the possibility of senior former ministers from other parties participating in the Erode rally, Sengottaiyan remained cautious, responding, “Wait until the 16th.”
In the meantime, Vijay’s campaign schedule continues unabated. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the Erode event, he is scheduled to speak at a public meeting in Puducherry on Tuesday.
Party leaders indicated that this illustrates Vijay’s determination to maintain campaign momentum throughout Tamil Nadu and adjacent areas.
According to TVK sources, additional rallies and organizational meetings are being organized across western Tamil Nadu in the upcoming weeks as the party prepares for its first significant electoral contest in 2026.
