Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Erode (Tamil Nadu), Dec 14 (NationPress) The Superintendent of Police in Erode, A. Sujatha, conducted an inspection on Sunday of the selected location near the Vijayamangalam toll gate in Perundurai taluk, where Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay is set to hold a public meeting on December 18.
The assessment took place at Moongilpalayam village, focusing on a 19-acre segment of a 31-acre plot owned by the Sri Vijayapuri Amman Temple. This land is managed by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department.
Officials indicated that the public meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. During her visit, the SP scrutinized the detailed plan provided by the organizers, emphasizing security measures and crowd control strategies. Key elements reviewed included the entry and exit routes for Vijay’s convoy, designated crowd entry and assembly points, barricading setups, emergency access paths, and overall law-and-order arrangements.
Additionally, provisions for drinking water, temporary restroom facilities, vehicle parking, and crowd flow management were evaluated to guarantee the event's successful and secure execution.
Senior police officials accompanied the SP during the venue inspection, engaging in discussions with the organizers to gauge readiness in light of the anticipated large turnout.
This inspection followed a formal request made last week by K.A. Sengottaiyan, chief coordinator of TVK’s administrative committee, to District Collector S. Kandasamy and district police, asking for permission to conduct the public meeting. Subsequently, the police outlined a list of 84 conditions that must be met for permission to be granted.
A critical requirement included obtaining a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the HR&CE Department, given the temple's ownership of the venue.
Sources reported that the TVK has now provided the necessary NOC. After the inspection on Sunday, police granted permission for the meeting, contingent on adherence to the specified conditions, and instructed the organizers to pay Rs 50,000 for venue rental to the temple, along with an additional Rs 50,000 as a cautionary deposit.
TVK representatives expressed gratitude to the police and the HR&CE Department for facilitating the event's approval.
Previously, Sengottaiyan indicated that the party was willing to comply with all police-imposed conditions and would seek judicial intervention if permission was denied.
Speaking to the press on Sunday, he affirmed that all conditions had been addressed and reiterated that the meeting was on track to occur as planned on December 18.
