Tirupattur, March 14 (NationPress) — The Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, is set to launch a range of public welfare initiatives today in the Tirupattur district. The projects include a specialized lounge for construction workers, a Village Knowledge Centre, and an integrated seva centre catering to individuals with disabilities.

These projects aim to enhance welfare services, facilitate skill development, and improve access to government programs for workers and marginalized groups in the area.

A significant highlight of the inauguration is the establishment of a ₹34.29 lakh construction workers’ lounge, initiated by the Labour Department at the Tirupattur taluk office. This location is conveniently situated about one kilometer from Pudupalayam Main Road, where construction workers typically gather in search of employment.

Authorities noted that many workers often wait for job assignments under trees or bridges.

“This new lounge will offer a secure and comfortable space for workers, especially women, while they wait for job opportunities,” commented S. Gnanavel, Assistant Commissioner of Labour for Tirupattur.

The facility has been specially designed to be accessible for persons with disabilities, featuring ramps and other assistance tools.

Covering an area of 350 square feet, the lounge is outfitted with benches, fans, drinking water access, and mobile charging stations.

It can accommodate approximately 15 workers at a time and will operate daily from 6 A.M. to 10 A.M., excluding Sundays.

Officials highlighted that this facility will also streamline the hiring process and enhance safety, as workers previously stood in busy areas while waiting for jobs, putting them at risk of accidents.

According to Labour Department officials, over 1.18 lakh construction workers in the Tirupattur district are registered with the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board, and trade unions will also have access to this new lounge.

In addition, Udhayanidhi will inaugurate a ₹1.27 crore Village Knowledge Centre (VKC) at Keel Mittalam village, located near Tirupattur town.

This centre, developed by the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation, will provide skill training sessions, digital literacy courses, and community-based educational opportunities, focusing on empowering the youth from the Adi Dravidar community.

The facility can accommodate up to 40 participants at once. Furthermore, Tirupattur Collector K. Sivasoundaravalli has declared the district a no-fly zone on March 14 for security measures during the Deputy Chief Minister’s visit.
