Union Minister Suresh Gopi Returns to Acting After a Hiatus

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 30 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Tourism, Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi, known for making history as the first BJP MP from Kerala, has stepped back into his original career—acting—after taking on his new duties.
He is set to portray the lead role, based on a real-life individual, in the film "Ottakomban".
Produced by Gokulam Gopalan’s Sree Gokulam Movies, the film features V.C. Praveen and Baiju Gopalan as co-producers, with Krishnamoorthy acting as the executive producer.
Initially planned in 2019, the film's shooting commenced recently after Gopi received the necessary government approval to wear the greasepaint once more, arriving at the Central Prison grounds in the state capital on Monday.
Originally, filming was expected to start in September and then postponed to October, but both occasions were delayed due to complications involving the project team.
This project also signifies Gopi's 250th film in his impressive career as a National Award-winning actor.
Over a span of four decades, Gopi captured audiences with his role as the host of the Malayalam adaptation of "Kaun Banega Crorepati".
Arriving quietly, Gopi greeted everyone warmly, flashing a broad smile, and met with the crew, including the director, who awaited his presence.
In "Ottakomban", directed by Mathews Thomas, Gopi embodies the character of Kadavakkunnel Kuruvachan, said to be based on a real-life person from Kottayam district.
The film also features actors such as Indrajith, Vijayaraghavan, Lalu Alex, Chemban Vinod, Johny Antony, Biju Pappan, Meghana Raj, Suchithra Nair, and Jibin Gopinath, among others.
Following the completion of shooting in Thiruvananthapuram, the film will transition to various locations in Kottayam.
Interestingly, after being appointed as MoS in the third Narendra Modi cabinet, Gopi requested his party leadership to allow him to fulfill his film obligations before officially taking on ministerial duties.
Eventually, after discussions, he agreed to assume the ministerial role with the understanding that he would be granted time to pursue his passion for acting.
