Thrissur, Aug 13 (NationPress) Union Minister of State and BJP MP from Thrissur, Suresh Gopi, was warmly welcomed by party supporters upon his arrival at the Thrissur railway station on Wednesday, amid ongoing allegations of irregularities in the voter list.
Despite numerous attempts by the media to gain insight into his views, the actor-turned-politician opted for silence and departed the station in his official vehicle.
This visit marks his first return to the constituency since July 17, a time when a complaint had been lodged with local authorities stating he was "missing".
Suresh Gopi arrived in Thiruvananthapuram from Delhi at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, spending a brief period at his home before taking the Vande Bharat Express at 5:15 a.m. towards Thrissur.
Media efforts to elicit comments from him regarding the voter list controversy—raised by both the CPI(M)-led Left and the Congress-led UDF—were unsuccessful at both the airport and railway station.
His initial stop in Thrissur was Ashwini Hospital, where several BJP members were receiving treatment for injuries incurred during a clash with police the previous night.
"Thank you for the support you provide," expressed the MoS with folded hands as he exited the hospital.
The violence occurred when police intervened to halt a BJP march directed towards the CPI(M) office.
This BJP march was a response to a prior incident where CPI(M) activists allegedly desecrated the MP's office name board by pouring black oil on it and adorning it with a garland of slippers.
After the hospital visit, the MP was expected to assess the damage to his office.
The BJP has proclaimed statewide protests, rejecting claims regarding the voter list as politically motivated.
State BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar accused the Pinarayi Vijayan government of nearly a decade of inadequate governance and attempting to shift the focus away from crucial issues ahead of elections.
"There exists a formal process to rectify discrepancies in the voter list, whether through legal avenues or the Election Commission," Chandrasekhar stated. "Instead, falsehoods are being propagated to mislead the public," he added.
This controversy has intensified political tensions in Thrissur, with both factions trading accusations as the election season looms.
