Thrissur, Aug 13 (NationPress) Senior BJP figure and former Kerala state president K. Surendran has openly mocked the CPI(M)-led LDF and Congress-led UDF for their claims regarding extensive voter list tampering in Thrissur, the constituency represented by Union Minister Suresh Gopi.

During a press conference in Thrissur, Surendran challenged how the leading political alliances in the state could remain quiet if, as claimed, a party without a single MLA in Kerala could supposedly add 60,000 'illegal' votes.

'If you couldn’t spot such a significant issue, you should consider resigning from your posts,' Surendran remarked.

Moreover, he confidently predicted that Suresh Gopi would not only secure victory in 2029 but also in 2034 with an even larger mandate, dismissing the ongoing debate as merely an attempt to tarnish the minister’s reputation.

'These accusations will only bolster public support for him,' he asserted.

Clarifying the BJP’s stance, Surendran noted that the Election Commission now permits three revisions of the voter list each year, up from one previously, and that any resident in a constituency for over six months is eligible for registration.

'Suresh Gopi and his family have rented accommodation in Thrissur for his political endeavors, and they have rightfully switched their votes there,' he explained.

While acknowledging that a limited number of votes were moved from other districts, he maintained that the numbers were minimal.

'Both Congress and CPI(M) representatives have votes registered in various locations. Why is this an issue only when it involves Suresh Gopi?' he questioned.

The BJP leader also criticized the opposition for voicing concerns based on the statements of 'a single woman' instead of utilizing appropriate legal frameworks.

He drew a parallel to his own Assembly election defeat in 2016 by a narrow margin of 89 votes, where he later proved 80 fraudulent votes in court without generating media hype.

'Whether the opposition approves or not, Suresh Gopi is here to stay,' Surendran affirmed, comparing the BJP to a 'majestic elephant' unruffled by 'small jackals making noise.'
