New Delhi, Jan 25 (NationPress) Pravesh Verma, the BJP candidate for the New Delhi Assembly, made audacious commitments to restore the Yamuna River if the party secures victory in the forthcoming Delhi elections.
Addressing the significance of the Yamuna, Verma highlighted that the river could serve as a valuable asset for the city if adequately cleaned and managed.
He asserted that the task of cleaning the Yamuna is not overly complicated, stating, "It's not rocket science. The river has accumulated 88 metres of sludge, which can be removed using machinery."
Verma shared his vision for the riverfront, outlining plans to establish water treatment facilities along the 28 km stretch where drains discharge into the river.
Additionally, he suggested creating permanent ghats on both banks of the river and planting around 10 lakh trees to help purify the water.
Comparing this initiative to the development of the Sabarmati Riverfront, he remarked, “Just as our Prime Minister initiated the Sabarmati Riverfront project, we can replicate that success here in Delhi.”
During his speech, Verma criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, claiming he has not delivered on his previous promises to clean the Yamuna.
He reminded the audience of Kejriwal’s statement, where he asserted that if he failed to clean the river, the people of Delhi should not vote for him.
"Eight thousand crores have been spent, yet there is no evidence of any progress," Verma declared.
He encouraged the citizens of Delhi to support the BJP, emphasizing that cleaning the Yamuna will be a primary focus for the party.
"Please save Delhi. On February 5, you will have the opportunity to press the lotus button and elect a BJP government that can genuinely clean the Yamuna," he urged.
Verma also targeted the AAP leadership, specifically former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, alleging his involvement in a liquor scandal.
He claimed there exists an audio recording where Sisodia discusses the deal.
Furthermore, Verma pointed out the ongoing legal issues facing AAP leaders, stating, "Those who were recently released from Tihar Jail still face accusations, and the Supreme Court has placed numerous restrictions on them, including prohibiting Arvind Kejriwal from accessing the Secretariat, meeting officials, or signing documents."
Verma’s remarks were directed at AAP’s leadership, contending that these individuals are unfit to govern Delhi.
He urged the voters of Delhi to reject the “divided government” and opt for a stable, effective governance like that of the BJP. "Delhi requires a government that prioritizes its citizens, not one entangled in scandals," he concluded.
Verma’s statements are perceived as part of the ongoing election campaign, as Delhi gears up to cast votes on February 5.
