Is It Objectionable? VHP President Responds to Slogans Against PM Modi and HM Shah at JNU
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Haridwar, Jan 6 (NationPress) In response to the slogans directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah by various Left-oriented student groups at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) International President Alok Kumar expressed that the event was indeed objectionable.
Kumar stated in an interview with IANS that he would not have taken issue with the protests had they not been associated with Umar Khalid. He emphasized, "In politics, there are Opposition parties and differing views, and disagreement is acceptable. However, when someone faces sedition charges and the Supreme Court denies bail to that individual while granting it to others, it becomes a serious issue."
He further articulated that such slogans are unacceptable: "Raising slogans like this is objectionable. People need to comprehend this and will have to provide answers for it," he remarked to IANS.
Previously, multiple Left-wing student organizations at JNU voiced slogans against PM Modi and HM Shah during a gathering at the 'Guerrilla Dhaba' on campus.
This incident transpired on Monday evening, shortly after the Supreme Court denied bail to former JNU students Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam regarding the 2020 Delhi riots case.
A group of 30 to 40 students linked with the Democratic Students' Federation (DSF), the All India Students' Association (AISA), and the Students' Federation of India (SFI) conducted a rally, chanting anti-government slogans.
Among the slogans raised was "Modi-Shah ki kabra khudegi, JNU ki dharti par."
On Tuesday, JNU's Chief Security Officer Naveen Yadav contacted Delhi Police, urging them to file an FIR regarding the objectionable slogans directed at PM Modi and HM Shah on the campus.
In his communication to the Vasant Kunj SHO, the CSO noted that a program was conducted outside the Sabarmati Hostel to observe the anniversary of an attack under the banner "A Night of Resistance with Guerrilla Dhaba".
"Initially, the gathering seemed focused solely on commemorating this anniversary. The number of students present was approximately 30-35. Notable students identified during this event included Aditi Mishra, Gopika Babu, Sunil Yadav, Danish Ali, Saad Azmi, Mehboob Ilahi, Kanishk, Pakeeza Khan, Shubham, among others," he explained.
However, he indicated that as the program progressed, the Supreme Court's announcement regarding the rejection of bail for former university students Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the 2020 Delhi riots case significantly altered the gathering's nature and tone.
