Chennai, March 12 (NationPress) Actor-turned-politician and TVK President Vijay alongside BJP leader Annamalai launched a fervent critique against the current DMK administration, voicing serious concerns over women's safety in Tamil Nadu after a spate of violent crimes reported across the state in recent times.

In a pointed declaration, Vijay highlighted the horrific murder of a 17-year-old girl in Vilathikulam, located in the Thoothukudi district. The young girl was reportedly subjected to sexual assault and murder, an event that has sparked outrage among the local community.

Reports indicate that the victim's family and local citizens have been protesting for immediate justice and action.

Vijay also drew attention to another alarming incident near Madhuranthakam, where a 14-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted and left abandoned in a forest. The victim managed to survive the night in the woods before walking nearly 10 kilometers the next day to alert the police to the crime.

Challenging the government's approach to law and order, Vijay demanded that the Chief Minister clarify the current safety conditions for women and girls in Tamil Nadu.

He expressed concerns that the government seemed more preoccupied with maintaining political alliances than addressing the pressing issues of public safety.

The TVK leader further enumerated additional violent incidents that have occurred statewide in recent days, including attacks in Nanguneri, Sivaganga, and Manamadurai, the kidnapping and sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl in Namakkal, an alleged custodial death in Manamadurai, and the murder of a 70-year-old man in Krishnagiri, followed by the assault of his wife.

According to Vijay, the frequency of these crimes has severely undermined public confidence in the state's law enforcement.

He pointed out that citizens are increasingly questioning whether the government can guarantee safety for all, especially women, children, youth, and the elderly.

In a similar vein, K. Annamalai, former state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), also condemned the government, referencing a recent case involving a college student from Tiruchirappalli. This student was reportedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted in Chennai while there for academic purposes.

Annamalai remarked that this incident followed closely on the heels of the Vilathikulam case and the assault near Madhuranthakam, highlighting that the latest incident occurred mere minutes from the Chief Minister’s residence in Chennai.

He emphasized that each of these occurrences underscores what he termed the crumbling law-and-order situation under the DMK administration.
