Is Law and Order Collapsing Under the DMK Government in Tamil Nadu?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Jan 29 (NationPress) The chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, has sharply criticized the DMK government, asserting that there is a total failure of law and order in Tamil Nadu. In a strongly articulated message on his X page, the TVK leader pointed out that the alarming increase in crimes throughout the state is undeniable proof of administrative incompetence, highlighting that even the capital city, Chennai, has been shaken by a troubling wave of violent acts, especially those targeting women.
Vijay expressed that the people of Tamil Nadu are reeling from a series of atrocious crimes reported recently. He referenced the horrific murder of a migrant worker from Bihar, who was working as a security guard in the Adyar vicinity of Chennai, along with his wife and child. Additionally, he mentioned the sexual assault of a young woman employed at a government college canteen in Nandanam. Describing these occurrences as “deeply shocking and painful,” Vijay stated that they warrant the most forceful condemnation.
He noted that the current climate in Tamil Nadu has left ordinary citizens feeling vulnerable. Alleging that the “deceptive DMK government” has failed the local populace as well as migrants seeking work in Tamil Nadu, he remarked, “Neither residents nor migrant workers feel safe anymore.”
Vijay accused the governing body of concentrating solely on corruption and personal gain, while neglecting its fundamental duty of ensuring law and order. He criticized the government for showing minimal commitment to preventing crimes against women and children, claiming that such negligence has resulted in an uptick in sexual violence cases even within educational institutions.
He further contended that instead of enforcing swift and strict penalties for offenders, the government has taken a “soft and indifferent stance.” This, he cautioned, is emboldening criminal elements and leading to an increase in heinous acts. Vijay argued that public perception is that the administration lacks the resolve to take decisive action against wrongdoers.
Demanding immediate action, Vijay insisted that those responsible for these crimes should face prompt punishment. He also targeted Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, accusing him of repeatedly proclaiming—without any sense of accountability—that Tamil Nadu remains a secure state for women and that the government is beyond criticism.
Concluding his remarks, Vijay stated that the Chief Minister’s “days in power are numbered” and urged him to take urgent measures to restore law and order during the remainder of his term.
He finished by asserting that the people of Tamil Nadu are ready to put an end to what he termed a hollow, publicity-centric model of governance that fails to provide genuine protection for its citizens.
