Vijay's Campaign in Tirunelveli Under Police Oversight
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tirunelveli, April 8 (NationPress) The renowned actor-turned-politician, Vijay, is set to hold a campaign in Tirunelveli on Wednesday, where he will address a significant public gathering at KTC Nagar as part of his efforts for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
This rally, aimed at supporting candidates from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) contesting in the Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts, has been granted police approval with certain stipulations, particularly concerning crowd management and security measures.
Party coordinator Sengottaiyan has stated that all regulations will be adhered to strictly, while expressing concern over the rigorous requirements applied solely to TVK events.
After the public meeting, Vijay plans to undertake a roadshow that will cover areas including Thalayuthu, Thachanallur, Washermanpet, Samadhanapuram, and the court complex vicinity before returning to KTC Nagar.
The party is also waiting for permissions to expand its campaign into Pudukkottai, Tenkasi, Mayiladuthurai, and Ranipet districts, with applications already submitted online.
This campaign initiative occurs amidst various developments related to nominations involving Vijay and his party candidates throughout the state.
Vijay, who is contesting from both Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchy East, had his nomination accepted smoothly in Tiruchy East. However, in Perambur, his nomination faced scrutiny after PMK candidate Thilagabama raised objections regarding alleged non-payment of property tax on assets registered under his name.
The Returning Officer initially withheld acceptance, which led to tense moments, but the nomination was ultimately cleared following clarifications from TVK representatives.
In Villivakkam, the nomination of TVK member Adhav Arjuna was also temporarily stalled due to objections concerning incomplete disclosures regarding companies linked to his wife. This issue was later resolved after additional information was provided.
A more serious situation arose in Edappadi, where AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami is contesting. The nomination of TVK candidate Arun Kumar was rejected, and his subsequent disappearance ignited a political controversy. The nomination of his substitute candidate and wife, Nithya, was also denied.
Conversely, in Chidambaram, both the primary nomination of candidate Pari and that of his substitute, his father Nedunchezhiyan, were accepted without any objections, standing in stark contrast to the disturbances faced elsewhere.
