Chennai, Sep 14 (NationPress) Actor-turned-politician and Tamiizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President Vijay has brushed aside the critique aimed at his party as mere routine mockery directed at movements lacking ideological foundation, while confidently asserting that TVK is on the brink of success in the 2026 Assembly elections.
In a forceful statement, Vijay reminded his critics that they had previously claimed he would never engage with the public.
"Those who proclaimed that Vijay would never engage, never meet the public, are now expressing their frustration in various ways," he stated, emphasizing that his campaign launch in Tiruchi attracted large crowds and sent shockwaves throughout the state.
Vijay accused the ruling DMK of betraying the very citizens who elected them, referencing recent protests from sanitation workers, anganwadi staff, individuals with disabilities, doctors, nurses, farmers, and fishermen. He claimed that instead of addressing their grievances, the government opted for arrests and neglect.
"Did the DMK government genuinely support sanitation workers, or did they prefer to arrest and harass them? Did they show compassion to anganwadi employees or treat them with contempt? Farmers have been charged under the Goondas Act. Is this what social justice looks like?" he questioned.
The TVK leader also drew comparisons to the past ridicule faced by former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, who was once branded as "politically illiterate" but evolved into a transformative leader with widespread appeal.
"They behaved similarly then, and they continue to do so today. It's no surprise that they launch ridicule and animosity at a people's movement that embodies significant youth and women's empowerment," he remarked.
Vijay emphasized that his party would remain anchored in principles of social justice, secularism, and respect for all lives.
"We will advance guided by the ideals of Periyar, Kamaraj, Ambedkar, Velunachiyar, and Anjalai Ammal," he stated, adding that public support has already ignited a spontaneous revival of the party across Tamil Nadu.
Expressing optimism about the TVK's victory, Vijay said: "Just like in 1967 and 1977, the people of Tamil Nadu will ensure a decisive win in 2026."
