Moscow, Dec 23 (NationPress) Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin on Tuesday accused the European Union (EU), former US President Joe Biden, and his supporters for instigating the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, according to local media.

During the concluding meeting of the fall session, Vyacheslav Volodin stated, "The EU, Biden, and his supporters bear responsibility for the turmoil in Ukraine. Their actions have led to the tragic loss of countless innocent lives. Their hands are stained with the blood of the people," as reported by Russia's prominent news agency Tass.

He further asserted that the architects of the conflict are "desperately trying to cling to power" by blaming Russia for everything that transpires.

“We recognize that this is merely an effort to maintain their positions. Citizens of European nations will evaluate their leadership, and similar to several other nations, changes will occur as it becomes untenable to depict Russia as the adversary,” he remarked.

Vyacheslav Volodin emphasized that Russia has never regarded Europe as an enemy and has consistently provided avenues for its growth.

He added, "Russia has always been a friend to Europe. It has facilitated Europe's expansion by supplying affordable energy, enhancing its economic competitiveness."

According to him, certain European leaders exploit the idea of a Russian threat to sustain their hold on power, as Tass reported. He advised, "It is prudent for European citizens to demand accountability from such politicians. The sooner they resign, the sooner Europe will witness progress."

On December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin labeled the efforts by the European Union to seize Russian assets as "robbery."

During his annual Q&A session titled 'Results of the Year', he stated, "Robbery is an appropriate term. They are attempting this openly, which makes it theft. Their failure to succeed lies in the grave consequences that await the robbers. What does this signify? It is a challenging task. They have not openly declared their intent to seize our assets. One of their plans involves issuing a reparation loan backed by our assets. This has implications for the budgets of every participating country, increasing their financial obligations."

He continued, "Take France, whose national debt has surged to 120 percent of its GDP."

"In contrast, our national debt stands at just 17.7 percent. While our budget deficit is 2.6 percent, it is projected to decrease to 1.6 percent next year, whereas France's deficit is 6 percent. New obligations will burden their budget. I believe they are grappling with significant issues regarding next year’s financial plans," he added.

He cautioned that the confiscation of Russian assets in Europe would jeopardize trust in the Euro zone, as various nations, including Russia, maintain their foreign reserves there.

"However, there will be dire repercussions for those who attempt this. It will not only damage their reputation but also undermine confidence in the Euro area, as many countries store their foreign reserves in this region. Not just Russia, but also other nations with surplus reserves, particularly oil-producing countries, are observing these actions. They are already starting to harbor suspicions, doubts, and fears," he concluded.
