Dubai, Feb 11 (NationPress) Jomel Warrican of the West Indies has been honored as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for January 2025.

His recognition comes after an impressive performance in Pakistan, where he achieved his career-best bowling figures and led the West Indies to their first Test victory in Pakistan in 35 years.

This marks Warrican's first ICC Men’s Player of the Month award, triumphing over two other remarkable spinners from January’s matches: Noman Ali from Pakistan and Varun Chakravarthy from India.

The 32-year-old had an outstanding month, claiming 19 wickets across two Test matches with an average of merely 9.00. He is the first West Indian to earn this award since fellow spinner Gudakesh Motie in May 2024.

In the initial Test held in Multan, he recorded his best bowling figures of 10-101 and added an unbeaten 31 runs. However, Pakistan, spearheaded by Sajid Khan’s 9-115, outplayed the West Indies, winning by 127 runs.

Warrican rebounded in the second Test at the same venue, where he first contributed with the bat, scoring a spirited 36 at No.11. Then, he excelled with the ball, securing four wickets in the first innings, granting his team a slight edge.

His figures of 4-43 and 5-27 in the second innings, along with an additional 18 runs, showcased his all-round abilities, leading to a historic 120-run victory and a well-deserved Player of the Series title.

“Winning this award is a tremendous honor for me. One of my objectives this year was to achieve my first five-for in Test cricket, but I never anticipated it would be this remarkable!

“I assured my captain that I would deliver something extraordinary in this series, especially since my father, my greatest supporter, foresaw a fantastic performance from me. Multan holds a special significance for me—not just because of the historic win for the West Indies against Pakistan away from home, but also because of this esteemed award,” remarked Warrican.
