Bumrah, Jansen, and Rauf Contend for ICC Men’s Player of the Month Honor

New Delhi, Dec 5 (NationPress) Speedsters Jasprit Bumrah, Marco Jansen, and Haris Rauf have been shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month accolade for November 2024, owing to their remarkable wicket-taking performances across various formats of the sport.

Bumrah's nomination stems from his impressive haul of eight wickets during a stellar bowling performance in India’s commanding 295-run victory over Australia in the initial Border-Gavaskar Trophy match held in Perth, where he also served as the stand-in captain in the absence of Rohit Sharma.

He is on the quest to secure his second ICC Men’s Player of the Month title; his captivating spell of 5-30 during the first innings helped India gain a 46-run lead. Bumrah later returned to claim 3-42 in the second innings, ensuring a memorable triumph for India and maintaining their aspirations for a spot in the upcoming ICC World Test Championship Final at Lord’s.

Meanwhile, Jansen is vying to become the first South African since Keshav Maharaj in April 2022 to clinch the award, thanks to the Proteas' success in T20Is and Tests. Beyond taking wickets, Jansen impressed with a blistering 54 off just 17 balls, although it wasn’t sufficient to prevent a narrow defeat in Centurion.

Luck turned in Jansen’s favor upon his return to Test cricket, where he wreaked havoc on the touring Sri Lanka side, securing 11 wickets in the match, including an astonishing 7-13 in the first innings – his best Test figures achieved in just 41 deliveries, enhancing South Africa’s prospects of reaching the World Test Championship Final.

In contrast, Rauf showcased his formidable skills while participating in six ODIs and three T20Is for Pakistan. He kicked off his Australian tour with a blazing three-wicket haul in Melbourne, culminating in a pivotal five-wicket haul that leveled the series.

During the series-deciding match in Perth, Rauf added two more wickets to finish the series as the leading wicket-taker with 10 scalps at an economy rate of just five, helping Pakistan secure a 2-1 series victory.

Rauf maintained his form in the subsequent T20I series, capturing five wickets, including an impressive four-wicket haul in the second match, and took three additional wickets during the ODI series in Zimbabwe, totaling 18 dismissals across formats for Pakistan in November.
