Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the increasing public discourse surrounding women's representation is a testament to the vitality of Indian democracy. He asserted that the Nari Shakti Vandan initiative will provide "new wings" to the ambitions of women across the nation, stating that women's involvement in decision-making is the "most significant assurance for our promising future."
While addressing the Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan at Vigyan Bhawan, the Prime Minister noted, "Recently, women have been increasingly vocal about this matter. A comprehensive discussion is taking place nationwide. This reflects the strength of our democracy as it prepares to grant new wings to your aspirations. There is a positive sentiment throughout the country. From the struggle for Independence to the decisions made by the Constituent Assembly, Indian women have made a boundless contribution."
He acknowledged the significant roles played by women leaders in the post-Independence period, asserting that those who took on leadership positions distinguished themselves positively.
"Even post-Independence, women who were given leadership roles made remarkable contributions to the nation. From the position of President to Prime Minister, wherever women served, they created a unique legacy. Today, high-ranking positions like the President and Finance Minister are also held by women, who have furthered the dignity and legacy of our nation," he remarked.
The Prime Minister pointed out that over 1.4 million women are currently engaged in local governance institutions across India, underscoring their expanding role in grassroots democracy.
"Research indicates that as women’s involvement in decision-making rises, the system becomes more sensitive. This is an invaluable strength. Consequently, in sectors such as water, education, health, and nutrition, more committed, empathetic, and effective work has been accomplished. I believe the Jal Jeevan Mission exemplifies this success, with women's participation at the panchayat level playing a crucial role," he noted.
Highlighting the significance of women's involvement in realizing the vision of a Viksit Bharat, PM Modi stated, "The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam will serve as a pivotal opportunity for every woman. Their journey from the panchayat level to Parliament will now be smoother."
He mentioned various government initiatives aimed at promoting women’s welfare, stating that the government has implemented numerous programs to support women at various life stages. He cited initiatives such as the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Mission Indradhanush, Sainik Schools, access to the National Defence Academy, Ujjwala Yojana, and PM Awas Yojana.
Calling for broader political backing, the Prime Minister encouraged lawmakers to collaborate for the benefit of women.
"I urge my fellow Members of Parliament to make sound decisions in favor of women and to do so through consensus. I also ask you to promote the discussions surrounding the Nari Shakti Vandan program in every village across the nation. Through personal interactions, social media, and other communication methods, we must ensure that this significant decision reaches every woman in the country," he stated.
"Let us unite and pledge that women will have their rights and will actively participate in the decision-making process. This is the ultimate assurance for our bright future," he concluded.
