The police confirmed that Khalid Khan, Yusuf Pathan's father-in-law, was taken into custody along with his son and another family member on Monday. These three individuals are accused of assaulting a man and his relatives in the Byculla area of Mumbai two days prior.
According to officials at the Byculla Police Station, the trio has been arrested, while the search continues for a fourth suspect. The case has been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 118(2), 115(2), 324, 352, 351(2), and 3(5).
The incident reportedly took place on Saturday night at around 9 p.m. when a local resident, Yusuf Khan (30), was on his way home. Water from a pothole splashed onto another individual, Shoaib Khan (35), as Yusuf Khan's vehicle passed through it.
Yusuf Khan informed the police that he stopped his car to apologize for the incident. However, Shoaib allegedly responded with verbal abuse and subsequently damaged the windshield of Yusuf’s car using a bamboo stick before launching a physical attack, resulting in injuries.
Upon returning home, Yusuf Khan’s family urged him to file a complaint with the authorities.
On his way to the police station, Yusuf Khan reportedly crossed paths with Khalid Khan (Yusuf Pathan’s father-in-law), who was accompanied by his son, Umarsad Pathan (35), Shoaib Pathan, and another suspect, Shehbaz Pathan.
Investigators revealed that this group allegedly initiated another confrontation, attacking Yusuf Khan and his relatives with bamboo sticks and baseball bats.
During the assault, Yusuf Khan's brother, Salman, suffered a fractured arm, and his uncle, Zaki Ahmed, endured serious injuries. Authorities reported that Shehbaz Pathan is still at large, while the other three have been arrested and charged with assault and infliction of grievous injuries.
Following their arrest, the accused were presented in court, where they were remanded to judicial custody.
The police action was supported by CCTV footage, witness testimonies, and the recovery of the weapons used in the attack, including bamboo sticks and baseball bats. Investigators noted that the accused were clearly identified through both CCTV recordings and eyewitness accounts.
