Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 11 (NationPress) There are currently over 7.72 crore Kisan Credit Cards (KCC) active across India, with total outstanding loans nearing Rs. 10.2 lakh crore, according to an official factsheet released on Wednesday.
The KCC initiative has successfully onboarded 457 banks, having processed more than 1,998.7 lakh credit applications. Of these, 631.5 lakh were handled by commercial banks, 337.2 lakh by regional rural banks, and 1,030 lakh through cooperative banks, as per the statement.
This data underscores the extensive involvement of financial institutions in the implementation of KCC and emphasizes the vital role played by cooperative banks in providing agricultural credit, particularly at the grassroots level.
Recent reforms, which include improved credit limits, broader coverage for allied sectors, and digital integration via the Kisan Rin Portal, have greatly enhanced outreach, transparency, and governance.
These advancements facilitate data-driven monitoring, accelerate loan processing, and guarantee transparent claim settlements, thereby bolstering the operational effectiveness of agricultural credit delivery, the report added.
The government has increased the crop loan limit under the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and has also raised the credit limits for fisheries and allied activities from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
Within the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) framework, term loans and composite credit limits are tailored for both marginal and non-marginal farmers, taking into account their landholding size, investment potential, and livelihood needs.
A flexible credit limit ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 may be approved based on criteria such as landholding size and cropping patterns. The composite KCC limit is determined for a duration of five years.
To facilitate farmer onboarding and enhance access to institutional credit, various supportive measures have been instituted under the Kisan Credit Card scheme.
A streamlined one-page KCC application form has been introduced, featuring basic applicant details pre-filled from banks’ PM-KISAN records. Farmers are required to submit copies of their land records and details about the crops they cultivate, as noted by the government.
