Mumbai, June 4 (NationPress) Reasserting its dedication to sustainability, Adani Electricity announced on Wednesday that it has successfully directed over 3.8 metric tonnes of non-biodegradable plastic waste towards recycling efforts during the past three fiscal years.
In anticipation of World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, Adani Electricity reported significant strides in its commitment to environmental stewardship.
The company highlighted its focused efforts on drastically reducing and eliminating single-use plastics (SUP) throughout its operations.
"As we approach World Environment Day -- with this year's theme of #BeatPlasticPollution, we at Adani Electricity reaffirm our steadfast commitment to environmental responsibility," stated an Adani Electricity spokesperson.
"Sustainability transcends trends; it is a fundamental principle that drives our actions. The considerable reduction in single-use plastics across our operations reflects our profound commitment to fostering a greener future. Every action, no matter how small, contributes to a broader, more significant transformation for our planet and communities," the spokesperson elaborated.
From 632.15 kg of non-biodegradable plastic waste in FY23 to 1940 kg in FY24, the organization exhibited a consistent upward trajectory in the recycling of non-biodegradable plastic waste. In FY25, the recycling figure reached 1230 kg.
“This remarkable cumulative total of 3802.15 kilograms underscores the efficacy of Adani Electricity's comprehensive environmental initiatives,” the company remarked.
The phased-out single-use plastic items comprise drinking water bottles, cups, and plastic cutlery such as forks, knives, spoons, glasses, plates, chopsticks, and thermocol cups.
Also eliminated are plastic garbage bags (less than 75 microns), gift wrapping papers, and plastic used in Diwali decorations.
In addition, plastic food packaging boxes, lamination sheets for office cubicles, cello tapes, brown tapes, and various packaging materials for stores (including lugs, glands, wires, pillars, panels, ring main units (RMUs), cables, poles, ferrules, and fuse units) are no longer utilized, according to Adani Electricity.
Furthermore, the company has successfully transitioned from single-use plastics to more sustainable alternatives within its operations. For example, the packaging for pillars, panels, and RMUs has been replaced with reusable plastic.
Additionally, lugs, ferrules, and wires are now delivered in eco-friendly gunny bags, and jointing kits come in cardboard boxes.
