West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday, 27 August declared that the state's new double-engine government is singularly focused on public welfare through economic transformation, pledging an open-door policy for investors and industrialists. He made the remarks while inaugurating an Information Technology facility of a national business group at New Town, on the northern outskirts of Kolkata.

The Investment Pitch

Addressing industry stakeholders at the inauguration, CM Adhikari said he was personally prepared to facilitate every requirement of large-scale investors looking to set up operations in the state. 'The new double-engine government is operating with a goal to ensure public welfare through transformation. And to achieve that goal of economic transformation, I, as the Chief Minister is ready with my two hands open to cooperate with the investors and industrialists in meeting their requirements for making big-ticket investments in the state,' he said.

The newly inaugurated IT facility is expected to generate employment for 5,800 individuals, according to the Chief Minister. Adhikari described the launch as a signal that West Bengal retains the capacity to reclaim its status as an industry-friendly, industrially advanced state.

Reversing Brain Drain: A Central Promise

A recurring theme of Adhikari's address was the reversal of West Bengal's long-standing brain drain. He called on skilled Bengali professionals currently working in cities such as Bengaluru and Hyderabad, and even abroad, to consider returning home. 'A day will come soon when the highly skilled and talented youths from West Bengal, who are currently in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad and even abroad, will start returning to the state. Please come back. A double-engine government has been established here,' he said.

The Chief Minister argued that the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) government had failed to create adequate opportunities for skilled youth, forcing them to seek livelihoods elsewhere. 'There is no dearth of skilled and technical brains in the state. The previous government could not give respect to the deserving youth. But now the situation has changed,' he added.

Commitment to Small Enterprises and Broader Growth

Beyond attracting large investments, Adhikari underscored that the double-engine government would also extend support to small industrial enterprises. He expressed confidence that investment inflows would accelerate in the coming months, framing the IT facility inauguration as the first of many such milestones. 'The double-engine government is committed to the reconstruction of Bengal. I hope more investment will be made in West Bengal. Our goal is to rebuild West Bengal,' he said.
