New Delhi, March 17 (NationPress) India is positioning itself as one of the most aggressive adopters of artificial intelligence (AI) in payroll systems worldwide. A recent report indicated that 34% of Indian organizations are gearing up for immediate AI implementation.

According to the findings by HR solutions provider ADP, the integration of AI in India is amplifying across vital payroll operations. Approximately half of the companies are utilizing AI to automate workflows, enhance data entry processes, and efficiently calculate taxes, benefits, and overtime.

Furthermore, organizations are also investigating AI's potential in areas such as audits, compliance management, and data validation, as highlighted in the report.

“In India, payroll operates at a crucial intersection of scale and scrutiny. Companies are emphasizing robust controls, audit preparedness, and high-quality data to facilitate informed decision-making. As AI undertakes repetitive tasks, payroll teams are expected to concentrate on data integrity, navigating regulations, and achieving governance excellence,” stated Rahul Goyal, Managing Director of ADP India and Southeast Asia.

The report also pointed out the skills shortages that payroll teams are encountering in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, revealing that 80% of organizations are reassessing how to manage payroll with a reduced workforce, surpassing the global average of 72%.

Reskilling and upskilling initiatives are paramount to counter these challenges, with around 74% of payroll leaders in APAC reporting that staff shortages have already influenced their payroll operations.

About 49% of respondents are considering AI to foster more efficient operating models, while 33% of organizations recognize AI as a pivotal element in payroll transformation over the next 2-3 years.

Organizations primarily leverage AI to identify fraudulent transactions, speed up report generation, and automate data entry, as noted by the firm.

However, around 79% of organizations indicated that data security regulations are impeding AI adoption, and 51% of respondents expressed a desire for payroll teams to dedicate more time to fortifying data security practices through new policies, safeguards, and continuity strategies.
