Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 30 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, unveiled a strategy on Monday to implement data analytics and artificial intelligence to identify unlawful Bangladeshi immigrants.
He highlighted a collaboration with esteemed institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology to create an AI solution capable of assisting authorities in distinguishing between lawful residents and those residing in the city without appropriate documentation. The deployment of these tools will occur after thorough testing.
Additionally, CM Fadnavis proclaimed a “decisive battle” against narcotics, particularly within academic environments. The state's Director General of Police is formulating a new approach to ensure educational institutions throughout Maharashtra remain devoid of illegal drugs.
Speaking to the press after presiding over the bi-annual conference for state police officials in Mumbai, CM Fadnavis outlined an extensive strategy targeting state security. This plan includes eradicating Naxalism, integrating AI in law enforcement, and a substantial crackdown on drug trafficking.
He announced the government's initiative for a completely digitized legal framework, establishing a six-month deadline for the Director General of Police to digitize the workflow from lodging a First Information Report to filing a chargesheet. The use of blockchain technology will be implemented to uphold the integrity of evidence.
The Criminal Investigation Department has been assigned to utilize AI tools to review cases from the past four to five years that resulted in no convictions. This initiative aims to pinpoint weaknesses and elevate the state’s conviction rate from the current 50% to a target of 95%, he noted.
CM Fadnavis commended the Maharashtra Police for their relentless efforts in nearly eliminating Naxalism from the region and honored the 244 police officers who sacrificed their lives in this endeavor.
In recognition of their valor, he announced that all personnel with a minimum of three years’ service in the elite C-60 anti-Naxal unit will now receive a special C-60 medal.
He emphasized that the state’s achievements align with the national objectives outlined by PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to eradicate Naxalism across India.
To ensure transparency and accountability, a monthly evaluation system for police districts will be introduced. Districts that perform above the state average will receive monthly accolades from the Director General of Police, while those that underperform will be closely scrutinized and assigned corrective measures.
Furthermore, the conference addressed road safety concerns, revealing plans to extend successful models from Nagpur and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, which achieved a 30% reduction in accidents, to all significant highways. Discussions also covered cybersecurity, community harmony, and police welfare.
