Air India stated that in light of the restrictions imposed on Indian airlines using Pakistani airspace, several of its flights to and from North America, UK, Europe, and the Middle East will be rerouted.
“Air India sincerely regrets the inconvenience this unexpected airspace closure has caused our passengers, which is beyond our control. The safety of our customers and crew is our highest priority,” the airline conveyed in a message on the social media platform X.
In parallel, IndiGo also informed via X that the abrupt closure of Pakistani airspace is affecting “a few of our international flights.”
“We recognize the difficulties this may bring, and our teams are working diligently to assist you in reaching your destination as promptly as possible. We encourage you to verify your flight status. If your flight is affected, please consider flexible rebooking options or claim a refund through our website,” the budget airline stated in their update on social media.
The National Security Committee (NSC) of Pakistan convened an emergency meeting, presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday afternoon, which endorsed the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs' recommendations to immediately close airspace for India.
Islamabad further announced that India's decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) would be viewed as an “act of war,” asserting that Pakistan will employ its national strength to counter any unilateral actions taken by India regarding this issue.
