New Delhi, Aug 6 (NationPress) Airbus has officially introduced Jurgen Westermeier as the new President and Managing Director for India and South Asia on Wednesday.
The 53-year-old, who is currently the Executive Vice-President and Chief Procurement Officer at Airbus, will assume his responsibilities on September 1.
He will succeed Remi Maillard, who has transitioned to the role of Executive Vice-President Engineering for Commercial Aircraft and Head of Technology at Airbus.
With a significant presence in both commercial aviation and defense, India represents a key market for Airbus.
In his elevated position, Westermeier will oversee Airbus' operations in the region, encompassing areas such as commercial aircraft, defense, space, and helicopters.
His role includes enhancing sales and expanding the firm’s regional footprint, which comprises services, engineering, digital solutions, innovation, and training.
Airbus highlighted that he will prioritize bolstering the company’s 'Make in India' initiatives by endorsing projects that resonate with the government's vision.
"In his new role, Jurgen will lead Airbus' business in India and South Asia across various sectors including Commercial Aircraft, Defence, Space, and Helicopters. He will be accountable for commercial aircraft sales and for expanding the company’s presence in the region, which also includes services, engineering, digital solutions, innovation, and training," the statement elaborated.

Westermeier joined Airbus in 2020 as the Chief Procurement Officer, where he managed procurement across all sectors and pioneered the enhancement of processes and tools aimed at boosting efficiency.
Over the years, he has established robust partnerships with suppliers and has been instrumental in developing procurement processes and tools throughout the organization.
Before his tenure at Airbus, he initiated his career in 1998 with BMW and holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe in Germany.
