Guwahati, Jan 21 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma engaged in a significant discussion with a senior official of a prominent semiconductor company in the world while in Seoul on Tuesday.
Taking to X, CM Sarma stated, "Started today's activities in Seoul with a fruitful meeting with Dr Joon Choi, Vice President of @SKhynix, one of the largest semiconductor vendors globally. I shared my vision of transforming Assam into a global semiconductor hub and underlined that developing a corresponding semiconductor ecosystem is among the key priorities of our government."
CM Sarma is visiting the South Korean capital to promote Assam's strengths as an attractive investment destination. The state government is set to host the investment summit 'Advantage Assam' in Guwahati in February.
While addressing leading industry representatives in Seoul, the Assam CM remarked: "I strongly believe that if Assam can establish an automobile manufacturing ecosystem, we could significantly alter the socio-economic landscape of the North East."
"During my discussions with CEOs and leaders from South Korea's automobile ancillary industries, I assured them of our State's full support should they decide to establish a presence in Assam. With easy access to India’s $100 billion auto industry and the Southeast Asian market, Assam provides them with unmatched opportunities," he elaborated.
CM Sarma also met with a delegation from the Korean International Trade Association (KITA) to explore investment opportunities in Assam.
He mentioned, "Had a productive meeting with the KITA delegation, which is the largest business organization in the country representing over 73,000 companies. We are particularly examining how Assam can utilize KITA's extensive network to access new markets for Assam's tea, silk, and agricultural products, among others."
The Assam Chief Minister further noted: "I had an insightful discussion with Kyungsung Kang, the President of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and his team in Seoul today. We explored a collaborative strategy to investigate partnership opportunities for growth in trade, commerce, industry, and skills that would benefit both Assam and Korean businesses."
The Advantage Assam summit will emphasize attracting global investors to the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the summit.
According to Chief Minister Sarma, the event, scheduled for February 25 and 26, will also showcase the traditional Jhumur dance of the tea tribe communities.
