Seoul, March 13 (NationPress) Mercedes-Benz Korea, Volkswagen Group Korea, Toyota Motor Korea, along with two additional automakers, will initiate a voluntary recall of over 15,000 vehicles because of defective components, as announced by the transport ministry on Thursday.
The five manufacturers, which also include Stellantis Korea and Ford Sales & Service Korea, are recalling a total of 15,671 units spanning 11 different models, according to the ministry's report.
Mercedes-Benz will recall 4,289 units of two models, including the S580 4MATIC, due to a software malfunction in the engine control unit, as reported by the Yonhap news agency.
Volkswagen identified a brake control system software problem impacting 4,226 units of the Audi Q4 40 e-tron and another model. Additionally, 2,722 units of Toyota's Sienna Hybrid were found to have improperly fastened third-row seat belts.
For Stellantis, 1,731 units of the Chrysler 300C were discovered to have inadequate durability in their fuel pump components, while Ford reported a software error in the door control module affecting 1,535 units of the Nautilus.
In a related case, last month, Kia, BMW Korea, and three other manufacturers voluntarily recalled over 76,000 vehicles to rectify defective components, the transport ministry noted.
The five automakers, including Renault Korea Motors Co., Tesla Korea, and Jaguar Land Rover Korea, recalled a total of 76,382 units across 37 different models, as stated in a press release by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The issues leading to the recall include a faulty airbag system in Kia's Niro electric vehicle (EV), problems with the cooling pump wire connector in BMW's 528i sedan, and transformer software issues in Renault Korea's Arkana sport utility vehicle (SUV), according to the ministry.
Tesla also recalled a defective electric power assisted steering (EPAS) system in the Model Y SUV, it added.
