Five Automakers to Recall Nearly 300,000 Vehicles Due to Defective Parts

Seoul, Dec 4 (NationPress) Hyundai Motor, BMW Korea, along with three additional automakers, are set to voluntarily recall close to 300,000 vehicles due to faulty components, according to a statement released by the transport ministry on Wednesday.
The five manufacturers, which include Kia, Honda Korea, and Mercedes-Benz Korea, are recalling a combined total of 298,721 units across 84 different models, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport stated.
The recall is prompted by several issues, including software malfunctions in the integrated charging control unit of Hyundai's Ioniq 5 and Kia's EV6 electric vehicles, a faulty braking system in BMW's 520i sedan, and a defective fuel pump impeller in Honda's Accord sedan, as outlined by the ministry.
Vehicle owners can verify if their cars are affected by visiting the government's website at www.car.go.kr or by calling 080-357-2500, the ministry indicated, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
Meanwhile, the sales of imported vehicles in South Korea declined by 3.9 percent compared to the previous year in November, according to industry data.
The count of newly registered imported cars reached 23,784 units last month, down from 24,740 units a year earlier, as reported by the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association. On a month-to-month basis, this reflects an 11.9 percent increase from October.

Tesla, Lexus, and Volvo followed in sales numbers, with 3,618 units, 1,370 units, and 1,319 units, respectively.
When examining fuel types, registrations for imported hybrids saw a significant rise of 20.3 percent year-on-year, totaling 9,960 units, which made up 50.6 percent of all imported car sales. Registrations for electric, gasoline, and plug-in hybrid models followed, with 22 percent, 20.3 percent, and 5.2 percent, respectively.
