IESA and ELCIA Join Forces to Enhance Sensor Product Manufacturing in India

New Delhi, Dec 5 (NationPress) The Electronics City Industries Association (ELCIA) and the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) revealed a strategic alliance on Thursday to enhance the development and production of sensor products within the nation.

This partnership is centered on creating a Centre of Excellence exclusively for sensor technologies, which will address the increasing demand for sensor modules in India and work towards minimizing the country's dependence on sensor imports.

Currently, the market for sensor modules in India is valued at approximately Rs 20,000 crore, with projections indicating growth to Rs 31,000 crore by 2027.

“Sensors are crucial in numerous applications, and by concentrating on sensor design, manufacturing, and applications, we can lessen our import dependency and bolster the growth of India’s semiconductor and electronics industries,” stated Ashok Chandak, President of IESA.

This collaboration aims to harness advanced technologies, including analog and digital sensors using semiconductors, Micro-electromechanical Systems (MEMS), Nano-electromechanical Systems (NEMS), IR, UV, Laser, and more.

Technologies such as MEMS and NEMS, which combine mechanical and electronic components, are especially vital for industrial sensors. The initial focus will be on industrial sensors, with plans to expand into additional sectors in the future.

“ELCIA has embarked on an ambitious journey to establish a comprehensive ecosystem that connects industry with academia, aimed at reducing our reliance on sensor imports, which currently exceeds 90 percent,” remarked Sriram Kumar V, President of ELCIA.

Both IESA and ELCIA aspire to position India as a key player in sensor technology, serving both domestic and international markets.

“By merging our strengths, we intend to construct a robust ecosystem that will stimulate growth, generate employment, and foster research and development in the sensor sector. Our ultimate objective is to establish India as a hub for sensor manufacturing and innovation,” stated Dr V Veerappan, Chairman of IESA.
