New Delhi, Feb 27 (NationPress) Union Railways and Electronics and IT Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, recently shared a post on social media platform X, where he is seen unveiling a laptop that is both “Designed” and “Made in India.”

This initiative aligns with the government's broader push for domestic electronics production under the 'Make in India' initiative.

The video highlighted how the laptop signifies India's advancing capabilities in hardware development and innovation.

Designed in India and Made in India,” said the Minister.

The clip features Puneet Agarwal, CEO of VVDN Technologies, who elaborates on the entire laptop manufacturing process, from hardware to software.

VVDN Technologies is a prominent electronics manufacturing and product engineering firm that specializes in comprehensive product development, including design, prototyping, and large-scale manufacturing.

Agarwal guided viewers through the essential components of the laptop, such as the graphics, PCR, motherboard, and other specifications that constitute the device.

He also provided a peek into the factory where the device is constructed according to international industry standards. However, the laptop's brand name has not yet been disclosed.

This initiative is part of India’s larger effort to encourage self-reliance in technology and manufacturing, promoting the design, development, and production of more products within the country.

The PLI scheme, offering financial incentives to companies investing in local manufacturing, has particularly attracted significant investments in the electronics sector.

Last month, the government announced that the PLI 2.0 scheme for IT hardware has generated Rs 10,000 crore in production and created 3,900 jobs within just 18 months of its launch.

Meanwhile, India's electronics manufacturing sector has experienced remarkable growth over the past decade, with total production increasing from Rs 2.4 lakh crore in 2014 to Rs 9.8 lakh crore in 2024.

Mobile manufacturing has also surged in the country, as 98 percent of mobile phones used in India are now produced domestically, with smartphones emerging as the country’s fourth-largest export item.
