New Delhi, Sep 29 (NationPress) The Department of Posts (DoP) has forged a collaboration with the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) to create innovative and environmentally sustainable packaging solutions for postal services, as announced by the Ministry of Communications on Monday.
This agreement, formalized in Mumbai, aims to modernize India Post’s parcel services while fostering eco-conscious practices.
"The Department of Posts and the Indian Institute of Packaging have signed an MoU to promote sustainable packaging solutions for postal services," stated the ministry.
As part of this initiative, IIP will offer specialized packaging solutions that replace conventional materials such as corrugated boxes and cloth wraps with eco-friendly alternatives.
The institute will also develop airworthy packaging for liquids and other delicate items, emphasizing cost-effectiveness, resilience, shock resistance, and scalability for nationwide implementation.
The partnership further includes aligning India Post’s packaging practices with international standards and preparing a pricing strategy paper to evaluate sustainable materials against traditional ones.
Moreover, training videos and graphics will be created to instruct postal staff on sustainable packaging methodologies.
By integrating IIP’s 58 years of experience in packaging technology with India Post’s vast network of over 1.65 lakh post offices, this collaboration aims to improve the safety, security, and efficiency of parcel services.
"This strategic alliance harnesses IIP's 58 years of expertise in packaging technology and the DoP's extensive network of over 1.65 lakh post offices to build a solid framework for sustainable packaging innovation," the ministry remarked.
This initiative also aligns with the government’s overarching goal of enhancing environmental sustainability across various sectors.
