New Delhi, July 2 (NationPress) Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated on Wednesday that the government aims to convert India Post into a logistics powerhouse by modernising its operations, optimising costs, and enhancing its role in the rapidly changing e-commerce landscape.
In an exclusive interview with IANS in the national capital, Scindia shared insights into the ongoing reforms within the Department of Posts (DoP), highlighting that India Post has experienced substantial business process reengineering over the last year.
“The department has reorganised into six verticals and four horizontals to prioritise profitability, cost-efficiency, and technological innovation,” the minister explained to IANS.
“To spearhead this transformation, we have appointed a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the first time in India Post’s history,” Scindia remarked.
“Each vertical is now accompanied by a Deputy CTO, and every business line is being assessed for its cost structure, competition, and revenue generation potential,” he further elaborated.
He stressed that automation and rationalisation initiatives are in progress across these verticals to modernise the institution, while also capitalising on India Post’s unparalleled physical presence nationwide.
“With more than 1.84 lakh operational points, India Post boasts the largest distribution network not only in India but also worldwide,” the minister clarified.
“No other distribution platform globally has such extensive reach,” he added, stating, “That’s why we are committed to transforming this remarkable institutional strength into a genuine logistics powerhouse.”
In addition, the Union Communications Minister mentioned that all necessary due diligence from the Ministry has been completed for the introduction of SpaceX’s Starlink service in India.
Now, the satellite Internet provider only requires regulatory and licensing approvals from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) to commence operations in the country.
“The government has fulfilled its role to facilitate the entry of this affordable satellite-based Internet service, and once IN-SPACe provides the green light, Starlink can launch its services in India at its discretion,” Scindia concluded.
