Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 20 (NationPress) The Indian Postal Service has achieved a remarkable 16% year-on-year growth in revenue, reaching Rs 15,296 crore for the financial year 2025-26, according to Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who referred to this period as a “historic year” for the organization.
During the department's annual business conference, the minister highlighted that this growth signifies a significant transformation in operations, spurred by enhanced service delivery, effective customer acquisition strategies, and a pronounced emphasis on service quality, driven by rigorous Six Sigma service level agreements.
In FY25, the department's revenue stood at Rs 13,218 crore, and this recent increase marks one of the most robust growth rates observed in recent times.
Scindia expressed optimism about sustaining this momentum, with initiatives aimed at expanding reach and unveiling new services to foster even greater growth in FY27.
Performance across various regions was strong, with eight out of 23 postal circles achieving over 90% of their targets, while 14 circles reached between 80% and 90%. Only one circle recorded below 80% achievement, according to the minister’s remarks.
Among the business segments, the parcels division stood out as a key driver of growth, with a 69% increase in revenue to Rs 1,133 crore in FY26, particularly buoyed by strong performance in states such as Jharkhand, Telangana, and Gujarat.
The mail segment also saw significant improvements, with revenue climbing 34% to Rs 3,202 crore, led by states including Rajasthan, Assam, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Furthermore, citizen-focused services experienced substantial growth of 70% to Rs 864 crore, while the Post Office Savings Bank segment generated Rs 7,756 crore, reflecting a 13% rise.
The combined revenue from Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance reached Rs 1,458 crore, indicating a 25% increase compared to the previous year.
Vandita Kaul, Secretary of the Department of Posts, noted that the disparity between revenue and expenditure has narrowed by approximately Rs 1,500 crore in FY26, even as the department continues to fulfill its universal service obligations.
The overall revenue expenditure, which includes pensions, amounted to Rs 38,631 crore, with nearly one-third of this attributed to pension liabilities.
