New Delhi, Nov 3 (NationPress) India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to facilitate doorstep Digital Life Certificate (DLC) services for pensioners covered under the Employees' Pension Scheme, 1995, as confirmed by an official announcement on Monday.
This partnership enables IPPB, a fully government-owned organization operating under the Department of Posts, to utilize its extensive network of over 1.65 lakh post offices and more than 3 lakh postal service providers (including postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks).
These service providers are equipped with modern banking devices and utilize digital face authentication and fingerprint biometric technology, allowing EPFO pensioners to submit their Digital Life Certificates from the comfort of their homes. This innovation removes the necessity for pensioners to physically visit bank branches or EPFO offices to deliver traditional paper certificates.
The EPFO will entirely cover the costs associated with issuing Digital Life Certificates, rendering the service free for its pensioners, as stated by the Ministry of Communications.
“This collaboration with EPFO enhances IPPB’s mission to provide essential financial and citizen services directly to every doorstep in India. Thanks to our tech-driven postal network and reliable last-mile delivery, EPFO pensioners—particularly in rural and semi-urban regions—can now submit their life certificates effortlessly, with both dignity and convenience,” remarked R Viswesvaran, MD and CEO of IPPB.
This initiative is in line with the Government of India's ‘Digital India’ and ‘Ease of Living’ objectives, which strive to harness technology and postal infrastructure to guarantee inclusive service delivery for senior citizens and pensioners.
IPPB initially launched the doorstep Digital Life Certificate service in 2020, enabling the generation of Jeevan Pramaan for pensioners through Aadhaar-enabled biometric authentication to expedite the issuance process.
Once the certificate generation is finalized, pensioners will receive a confirmation SMS on their mobile devices, and the certificate will be accessible online the following day.
