New Delhi, Oct 10 (NationPress) With 38,000 GPUs available at a mere Rs 65 per hour and 12 companies engaged in developing foundation models, the nation is set to unveil an Indian Large Language Model (LLM) by the conclusion of this year. This initiative aims to lessen reliance on foreign technologies, as stated by the government on Friday.

Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary MeitY, CEO of IndiaAI, and DG-NIC noted that the IndiaAI Mission, approved last year, is bridging significant gaps by facilitating affordable computing, establishing a national data platform, backing foundation models, promoting AI skills, and ensuring that AI remains safe and trustworthy.

MeitY recently organized a series of pre-summit events in anticipation of the forthcoming India–AI Impact Summit 2026 at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 here.

These events represent a crucial milestone leading up to the India–AI Impact Summit 2026, set to take place on February 19–20, 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

During the opening speech, S. Krishnan, Secretary MeitY, remarked, “We are adopting innovative strategies by learning from global experiences to develop projects and products that will significantly benefit us.”

“Collaborating with the private sector while making it accessible to the public sector—ensuring fairness for all providers—is both creative and economical. It guarantees that with minimal resources, we can ensure availability for everyone. Many international agencies have found our approach quite appealing for creating a model that could serve the entire global South,” he emphasized.

The pre-summit events convened leaders from government, industry, academia, and global institutions to investigate how AI can facilitate inclusive, safe, and sustainable progress across the digital and telecom sectors.

The dialogues mirrored India’s ambition to harness AI for societal benefits, economic stability, and inclusive development, aligning with the upcoming Summit’s theme - “From Action to Impact.”

Participants delved into India’s expanding AI ecosystem, advancements under the IndiaAI Mission, and collaboration opportunities that democratize AI access and innovation.

The India-AI Impact Summit 2026 will gather global leaders to promote the responsible design, development, and deployment of AI, guided by the principles of “People, Planet, and Progress.”

Point of View

The announcement marks a significant milestone in India’s technological journey. The proactive steps taken by the government reflect a commitment to developing indigenous technologies while fostering collaboration with the private sector. This initiative not only promises to enhance India’s AI capabilities but also positions the country as a leader in the global AI landscape, ensuring that advancements are made for the collective benefit of society.
