New Delhi, Jan 8 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called upon India’s AI startups to prioritize ethics, fairness, transparency, and adherence to data privacy principles in their models.
While presiding over a roundtable with Indian AI startups at his residence located at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, the Prime Minister urged these innovators to aim for global leadership and emphasized that India has the potential to lead in affordable and inclusive AI as well as frugal innovation on a worldwide scale. He further encouraged the creation of unique Indian AI models that promote local content and support regional languages.
PM Modi pointed out that startups and AI entrepreneurs play a crucial role in shaping India’s future, highlighting the country's vast capabilities for innovation and extensive implementation. He stressed the need for India to showcase a distinctive AI model to the world that embodies the essence of “Made in India, Made for the World”.
He also underlined the transformative power of artificial intelligence in society. India is set to host the India AI Impact Summit 2026 next month, which aims to position the nation prominently in the technology sector.
A total of twelve Indian AI startups, selected for the AI for ALL: Global Impact Challenge at the upcoming AI Impact Summit, participated in the roundtable to share their innovative ideas and projects.
These startups are involved in an array of fields, such as Indian language foundation models, multilingual LLMs, speech-to-text, text-to-audio and text-to-video technologies; 3D content creation using generative AI for e-commerce, marketing, and personalized content; engineering simulations, material research, and advanced analytics for data-driven decisions across various industries; as well as healthcare diagnostics and medical research.
The AI startups expressed their appreciation for India’s strong commitment towards enhancing the artificial intelligence ecosystem, noting the rapid growth and vast potential within the sector. They observed that the focus of AI innovation and deployment is increasingly gravitating towards India, which now provides a robust environment for AI development, solidifying the country’s presence on the global AI landscape.
The meeting featured the CEOs, heads, and representatives of Indian AI startups, including Avataar, BharatGen, Fractal, Gan, Genloop, Gnani, Intellihealth, Sarvam, Shodh AI, Soket AI, Tech Mahindra, and Zenteiq. Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada also attended the meeting.
