Is India Leading AI Bot Activity in APAC, Outpacing Japan and China?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Nov 5 (NationPress) India has emerged as the foremost nation in the Asia-Pacific region regarding AI bot activity, according to a recent report. Over the past year, automated traffic globally has surged by an astonishing 300 percent.
AI bots in India have triggered a staggering 3.2 billion requests, marking the country as the most targeted in APAC, followed closely by Japan and China, as per findings from cybersecurity and cloud computing firm Akamai Technologies.
The report highlighted a troubling increase in automated traffic, predominantly driven by AI bots that are targeting various industries' websites.
These bots generate billions of requests, causing significant disruption to digital operations and analytics, accounting for nearly 1 percent of total bot traffic on Akamai’s platform.
The increase is primarily attributed to content scraping, which jeopardizes traditional business models, publisher analytics, and advertising revenues.
As bot traffic escalates, publishers and content-centric businesses are experiencing distorted analytics and declining ad revenues due to bots extracting value without reciprocating.
Moreover, the rapid expansion of AI-enabled tools has simplified the process for both seasoned threat professionals and novice malicious actors to conduct impersonation attacks, engage in social engineering, distribute phishing schemes, and commit identity fraud using AI-generated fake documents and images.
Additionally, harmful bots like FraudGPT, WormGPT, ad fraud bots, and return fraud bots are inflating costs, impairing site performance, and skewing vital metrics.
Furthermore, the global report indicated that the commerce sector is at the forefront of AI bot activity, recording over 25 billion bot requests within a two-month observation window.
However, the digital media industry has faced the most significant impact, with 63 percent of AI bot triggers originating from this sector.
In the healthcare domain, more than 90 percent of AI bot triggers are linked to scraping activities, predominantly by search and training bots, the report stated.
