New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced on Friday that discussions between India and the United States are ongoing regarding a mutually advantageous bilateral trade agreement, dismissing media claims of a hiatus in negotiations.
In an official statement, the ministry emphasized that there has been no suspension of bilateral dialogues between the two nations.
It further noted that both parties are diligently pursuing a trade agreement aimed at fostering business growth and enhancing economic collaboration in both countries.
“We have taken note of recent media reports about the trade negotiations with the US. It is categorically denied that there is any pause in bilateral discussions. We reaffirm that both sides are committed to achieving a mutually beneficial trade agreement,” the ministry stated.
This clarification emerges as India and the United States deepen their diplomatic and economic ties across various sectors, including trade, defense, and supply chain collaboration.
Earlier this month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau during the Raisina Dialogue 2026 held in New Delhi.
Landau's visit to India from March 3 to 6 was part of his representation of the US at the global conference and to explore multiple facets of bilateral cooperation.
The US State Department indicated that the visit concentrated on reinforcing relations in defense, critical minerals, and counternarcotics, while also striving to enhance commercial and economic connections between the two nations.
Discussions included initiatives to broaden market access for American enterprises and to promote a shared vision for a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
The Raisina Dialogue, which is India’s premier conference focusing on geopolitics and geo-economics, convened global leaders, policymakers, industry representatives, and strategic experts to deliberate on significant international challenges.
