New Delhi, Feb 12 (NationPress) In the course of ongoing negotiations regarding a prospective India–US trade agreement, Priyam Gandhi Modi, Executive Director of the Future Economic Cooperation Council (FECC), emphasized India's rising global prominence on Thursday and assured that the interests of farmers and the dairy sector will be rigorously safeguarded in any trade agreement.
In an interview with IANS, she remarked that India has achieved substantial advancements in enhancing its artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem over recent years.
“Thanks to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, India now ranks among the top three or four nations globally that are swiftly progressing in the field of AI and associated sectors,” she elaborated.
She commended the government for establishing India as a pivotal global player in this vital technological arena.
Discussing the proposed India–US trade agreement, Priyam Gandhi Modi welcomed the executive order from US President Donald Trump aimed at reducing tariffs to 18 percent, while noting that the complete details of the deal are still pending.
“A thorough evaluation can only be conducted once both governments unveil the full terms and conditions of the agreement,” she conveyed to IANS.
She also noted that the opposition frequently criticizes efforts that are genuinely in the national interest.
Nonetheless, she emphasized that any final judgment regarding the trade pact should be made only after all details are disclosed.
“The government's stance is unequivocal: the interests of farmers and the dairy sector will be securely protected under the proposed agreement,” she asserted.
Touching on the global economic landscape, she stated that recent years have been characterized by disruptions such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the Suez Canal blockage, and ongoing tariff disputes, all of which have unsettled the global economy.
“These events highlight the necessity for like-minded nations to collaborate more closely to ensure global economic stability,” Priyam Gandhi Modi told IANS.
She articulated that India stands by the principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” -- the world is one family -- and promotes collective advancement.
