New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) The 'India-AI Impact Summit 2026', which kicked off on February 16, is centered around a compelling vision that places India's youth at the forefront of the nation’s journey in artificial intelligence (AI), as stated in an official announcement made on Thursday.

With over 65 percent of its population under the age of 35, India boasts the largest youth demographic globally, making this group a vital engine for economic growth.

This summit signifies a transition from merely passive learning to engaging actively in various sectors. It is redefining employment opportunities, emphasizing new skills, and addressing the critical requirement to align education with industry demands. The emphasis is on increasing employability, improving productivity, and creating seamless pathways for students to transition into AI-driven careers, the statement noted.

Young innovators are at the helm of the summit's agenda, utilizing hands-on platforms like innovation challenges, startup pitches, and live solution demonstrations. These structured activities aim to connect skills with market needs, effectively channeling the potential of India’s youth into productive avenues, it further observed.

The summit acts as a catalyst to boost job creation in burgeoning sectors, including Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics, which are expected to create nearly 2 million jobs by 2030. By integrating global insights with youth skilling and job creation, India is solidifying its demographic dividend as a fundamental aspect of its AI strategy and preparing a workforce ready for the future.

With AI emerging as a significant opportunity for the country's extensive talent pool, it is transforming the employment landscape, generating new roles, enhancing productivity, and expanding pathways for inclusive growth. India perceives AI as a crucial tool to augment youth employment and skills, merging emerging technologies with inclusive development.

The rising demand for AI skills and roles is reshaping opportunities for young Indians. From January 2023 to March 2025, AI-related job postings in South Asia rose from 2.9 percent to 6.5 percent of all vacancies, with the demand for AI skills increasing 75 percent faster than that for non-AI roles.

This transition indicates a structural change in India’s labor market, one that increasingly rewards digital fluency, advanced technical skills, and interdisciplinary expertise. For the youth in India, AI represents a pathway to skill-intensive, future-ready employment in technology and related sectors, the statement remarked.

Recognizing AI as a strategic driver for employment, the Union Budget 2026–27 underlined the government's dedication to AI skilling and talent development. The budget emphasized the Orange Economy, which intersects with AI-driven sectors like Animation, Gaming, Digital content, and Immersive media.

It allocated resources for the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) in Mumbai to set up AI-aligned Content Creator Labs in 15,000 schools and 500 colleges, paving the way for youth to acquire future-ready skills and step into AI-centric job roles. This initiative is anticipated to create approximately 20 lakh new jobs, significantly enhancing employment prospects for students, creators, and young professionals across India.

The Budget also emphasized AI and emerging technologies as vital to shaping jobs and skills across various sectors. It proposed the establishment of an Education to Employment and Enterprise Standing Committee to evaluate how AI and related technologies impact job and skill requirements, aiming to bridge the gap between education, work, and enterprise demands.

Additionally, affordable AI infrastructure and policy support under the IndiaAI Mission are democratizing access to computing, data, and innovation opportunities beyond metropolitan areas.
