New Delhi, May 10 (NationPress) The budget airline IndiGo announced on Saturday that passengers who had planned to travel to or from the airports affected by the recent closures can now opt for flights to or from a nearby airport without incurring any extra fees.
As stated by the airline, they remain dedicated to assisting their customers during this difficult time as airports remain closed for security reasons.
"We recognize the confusion this situation may have created and want to reassure you that our team is available to assist. We are waiving change and cancellation fees for bookings made during this period," IndiGo stated.
Customers affected by the airport closures can now choose alternative nearby airports for their travel at no extra cost, according to the airline.
"This flexibility extends across our network for qualifying bookings. We are also preparing to run relief flights to aid stranded passengers and will provide further updates as these plans are finalized," the airline added.
Previously, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) along with relevant aviation authorities issued a series of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), declaring the temporary closure of 32 airports in northern and western India for all civil flight operations, effective until May 14.
The closure “is effective until 0529 IST on 15th May 2025, due to operational reasons,” as detailed in the latest update from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
The affected airports include: Adhampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jaisalmer, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra (Gaggal), Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu Manali (Bhuntar), Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Naliya, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot (Hirasar), Sarsawa, Shimla, Srinagar, Thoise, and Uttarlai.
All civil flight operations at these airports will remain suspended throughout this period. Additionally, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has prolonged the temporary closure of 25 segments of Air Traffic Service (ATS) routes within the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Regions (FIRs) due to operational factors.
