Is IndiGo Fully Collaborating with the Regulator’s Committee Amid Operational Disruptions?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 31 (NationPress) The budget airline IndiGo announced on Wednesday that it is completely cooperating and supplying the necessary information to the committee set up by the regulator, following significant operational disruptions that occurred earlier this month.
Massive flight cancellations by IndiGo, particularly from December 3-5, left numerous passengers stranded across the nation. The airline cancelled thousands of flights due to inadequate pilot roster management and a lack of preparation for stricter safety regulations.
“The operational landscape posed widespread challenges throughout the year, including IndiGo’s considerable disruption (December 3-5, 2025), which unfortunately affected our valued customers, for which IndiGo has sincerely apologised,” the airline stated in its year-end report.
IndiGo mentioned that it swiftly restored its network and operations to normal and is focused on further enhancing its operational processes and resilience.
The airline reiterated, “IndiGo is fully collaborating and providing requested information to the regulator’s committee.”
Following days of disruption that affected domestic air travel, the government placed the airline under close examination. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) acknowledged complaints lodged against IndiGo concerning the recent flight disruptions on various routes throughout the country.
A statement from the regulator indicated that, based on its preliminary assessment, it would move forward with the case per the provisions of the Competition Act, 2002.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) dismissed four flight inspectors responsible for overseeing IndiGo's safety and operational standards.
In the year-end statement, Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo, expressed that as the New Year approaches, “it’s a moment to reflect on our journey thus far, assess the progress made, and learn from the operational challenges we faced.”
“This phase of our journey will see our renewed focus drive further scale, innovation, and impact across new horizons, with our customers at the heart of everything,” he added.
IndiGo anticipates closing the calendar year 2025 by welcoming over 123 million customers, an increase of over 10 million from 113 million in 2024.
Looking forward, IndiGo is set to commence non-stop services to Athens starting January 23, 2026, marking the international debut of India’s first Airbus A321XLR, which will unlock vast potential for connecting to new medium-to-long-haul markets from India.
