New Delhi, Dec 12 (NationPress) In a clear indication of operational normalization and stability following the government's intervention in crisis management, IndiGo announced its plan to operate more than 2,000 flights on Friday, according to its revised scaled-down schedule.
The airline has been steadily increasing its flight operations, having run over 1,700 flights on December 8, surpassing 1,800 on December 9, and reaching 1,900 and 1,950 on December 10 and 11, respectively. For December 12, IndiGo is set to operate over 2,050 flights.
“All of our 138 operational destinations are interconnected, and our on-time performance remains consistently within IndiGo's standards,” the airline stated in an announcement.
“Yesterday, we conducted over 1,950 flights with only four cancellations due to adverse weather, and all customers affected were promptly notified to minimize inconvenience,” the statement further noted.
Following a significant disruption that impacted the domestic civil aviation sector due to operational failures, IndiGo has engaged an independent aviation consultancy to investigate the recent operational disturbances affecting its flights.
The airline's Board has approved the hiring of Chief Aviation Advisors LLC to conduct an in-depth review and identify the factors behind the issue.
“The Board has sanctioned the appointment of Chief Aviation Advisors LLC, led by Captain John Illson, a seasoned aviation expert, to carry out an independent evaluation of the recent operational disruptions and the contributing factors,” the airline said in its statement.
Captain Illson brings over 40 years of aviation experience, having worked with major international organizations like the FAA, ICAO, and IATA, along with leading global airlines.
Earlier, the DGCA terminated four flight inspectors responsible for monitoring IndiGo's safety and operational standards.
This action is part of a broader crisis at the airline, which has seen thousands of flights canceled this month due to inadequate planning and failure to adhere to stringent safety regulations. Sources indicate that the DGCA intervened after discovering negligence in the inspectors’ monitoring duties.
The regulator has deployed two specialized oversight teams at IndiGo’s Gurugram office to closely monitor the airline’s operations. Additionally, earlier this week, IndiGo was instructed to scale back its operations by 10 percent to stabilize its flight schedules and mitigate further disruptions.
Typically, the airline operates around 2,200 flights daily.
