Jaipur Airport becomes Rajasthan's first water-positive airport

Synopsis

J ai pu r a ir po rt w at er p os it iv e

Jaipur International Airport, operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), has achieved water-positive status, becoming the first airport in Rajasthan and among only a handful across India to reach this sustainability milestone. The certification was awarded by global consulting firm Bureau Veritas following a detailed assessment of the airport's water management systems and sustainability practices.

What Water-Positive Status Means

A water-positive designation means the airport replenishes and recycles more water than it consumes. During the reporting period from April 2025 to March 2026, Jaipur International Airport utilised 1,03,387 kilo litres of water while replenishing and recycling 1,37,085 kilo litres — a net positive surplus of over 33,000 kilo litres.

Key Enablers Behind the Certification

The airport has built its water sustainability programme on three strategic pillars, according to a spokesperson. These are 100% recycling and reuse of treated water, reduction in fresh water consumption, and a robust rainwater harvesting infrastructure. Notably, the airport has installed 18 deep aquifer recharge pits to enhance rainwater harvesting and groundwater replenishment — a critical intervention given that Jaipur falls within a water-scarce geographic region.
