Launch of Asia's First Water Transport Service 'Uber Shikara' on Dal Lake

Srinagar, Dec 2 (NationPress) Asia's inaugural water transport service, Uber Shikara, has officially launched in the scenic Dal Lake of J&K.
Uber has introduced this pioneering service, enabling users to book shikara rides directly through its app.
Visitors to the Dal Lake can now experience a seamless travel option with the introduction of Uber Shikara.
This groundbreaking initiative seeks to merge technology with tradition, allowing travelers to reserve shikara rides in advance using the well-known ride-hailing app.
The service was inaugurated by Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, who booked the very first shikara ride through the app.
“Uber Shikara represents our modest effort to integrate technology with tradition, improving accessibility and boosting tourism in the stunning landscape of Kashmir,” he stated.
Uber Shikara signifies a remarkable achievement for the company as it is the first water transport service in Asia, following similar operations in specific European locations like Venice, Italy.
Uber has collaborated with seven local shikara owners and plans to scale up the fleet in accordance with user demand.
Rides will be priced at government-regulated rates, ensuring fair pricing for travelers.
The seven shikaras are positioned at Nehru Park, an island park situated in the center of Dal Lake.
Notably, Uber will not impose any charges on its shikara partners, ensuring that the full fare benefits the boat operators.
Ruchika Tomar, Uber's Director of Communications, commented: “Every visitor to Srinagar should experience a shikara ride, a timeless element on any traveler's bucket list. Our service combines the allure of technology with the traditional charm of Kashmir, delivering a smooth experience for travelers.”
Each Uber Shikara ride can accommodate a maximum of four passengers and is available for one-hour bookings daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rides can be arranged from 12 hours to 15 days in advance.
Having previously established its presence in Srinagar with cab services, the introduction of Uber Shikara aims to transform the way tourists enjoy boat rides in the Dal Lake.
