LG Introduces Enhanced Version of Exaone AI Model with Superior Features

Seoul, Dec 9 (NationPress) LG AI Research, the artificial intelligence laboratory under South Korea's LG Group, on Monday launched an upgraded version of its expansive, multimodal AI model Exaone, delivering improved performance and cost-effectiveness for its users.
In support of the AI ecosystem, all three models of the latest Exaone 3.5 will be made available as open source, facilitating their application for various research initiatives, according to LG AI Research.
This announcement follows just four months after the release of the lightweight model from its predecessor, Exaone 3.0, as open source, according to reports from Yonhap news agency.
To reduce the risk of providing plausible yet inaccurate responses and to enhance the precision and dependability of answers, Exaone 3.5 incorporates advanced technologies that generate responses using real-time web search results or uploaded documents.
In a technical report assessment, the model's performance achieved top rankings for practical usability, long-text processing, coding, and mathematics when compared to international open-source AI models from the United States, China, and other nations.
"As AI technology has emerged as a significant strategic asset for various countries, developing AI models with our proprietary technology is vital for boosting national AI competitiveness," stated an LG AI Research official.
Last year, LG AI Research introduced the second generation of its extensive multimodal AI model, hastening its efforts to establish itself as a formidable player in the increasingly competitive global AI arena.
EXAONE, which stands for expert AI for everyone, is a substantial multimodal language model capable of simultaneously comprehending both language and images, thus being able to perform image-to-text generation and vice versa. The term multimodal refers to having various methods of conveying a message.
Its deep learning algorithm can comprehend, recognize, and forecast text while learning from vast amounts of data to provide effective solutions and address complex inquiries across numerous fields.
LG Group launched LG AI Research in 2020. Last year, the group announced its plan to invest 3.6 trillion won ($2.8 billion) in AI research and development over the coming five years.
